2011 - With the new shop and prompt jump in online sales, we reduced our show schedule this year.
Jan FUN - Although it was in Tampa, we still had a kickin show! We stayed at the Hampton Inn. The funny thing about it was they had GREAT food, but the WORST service ever. We had to ask to pay 4 times. Get our own drink refills.
Jan Raleigh - Dot always puts on a grand show. The public attendance was amazing, but the sales were down. Kinda strange. Had some great purchases though. Dinner at the Irish Pub was grand. REAL Shepard's pie with lamb, yummy!
Jan Perry GA - Not all it was cracked up to be. Friday was amazing with a few big sales and a huge purchase. Many dealers packed up on Saturday. You could hear the crickets on Sunday. We drove around trying to find a decent place to eat.
Feb 5-7 Charleston - Kind of interesting. This was the first time we had a show in Charleston since we opened the shop. So we kept the shop open just to see how it went. We did better at the shop than the show!
Feb 11-13 Charlotte - An amazingly well attended show. The club always does such a great job. Thank you Jerry for accepting my late application. There was an antique show in the next building, so that added to the foot traffic.
Feb 11-13 Charleston STAMP show - This was an experiment. Since I get asked EVERY day "Do you buy stamps as well?", I figured the stamp dealers are probably getting asked the same about coins. So we set up there to do some advertising. Well, I'm not sure it was worth it. The APS did NOT advertise locally. We had a lot of people come to the table, but there were from everywhere besides Charleston. There was one stamp dealer with coins to sell. And he had some really wonderful coins at that. However, he had a very skewed vision of the coin market. He wanted more than red book price for his coins. I informed him that he will be buried with them, because no coin collector will pay those prices for them.
Feb 25-27 Spartanburg Coin show - Decent show. Nothing special. Eating at the Beacon is always the highlight!
Mar 12-13 Raleigh - Another well attended show. Sales were up a little over last time. Proof silver eagles and 20 cent pieces were in demand. Sold several better date morgan dollars too. We ate at some Mediteranian place in Chapel Hill. That place was to die for! I'd eat there every day if it was local.
Apr 9 Florence - This was in conjunction with the gun show, so it was really good! Lots of interest in the new Florence shop!
May 7 Columbia - This was a real let down. Columbia is one of our favorites, still is. But this show was really weakly attended.
May 27-29 Jacksonville - Ikes were a hot commodity, as were Roosevelts. I'm talking $10-$15 coins, nothing super, but those coins that sit around forever found a new home!
June 10-12 Charlotte - Not impressive. For some reason, Charlotte is really hit and miss.
Jul 15-17 Raleigh Club show - Paul always puts on a great show, this was no different. We bought a lot each evening after the show, as usual. I think the last 6 raleigh shows, we have been booked both Friday and Saturday evenings to purchase large collections, and that is with no local advertizing. We got really lost Saturday night looking for food. We finally ended up at some small BBQ place that was great.
Aug 5-7 Charleston - Rain, rain go away, come again another day, the coin collectors want to play! Welcome to a typical Charleston summer. Man, it was either sweltering or pouring, or both. Most dealers had a slow show. I think we did better than average.More buying than selling, that's for sure.
Aug 15 Charleston Bridal Show - another experiment, lets see what happens! How about those six pence?
Sep 9-11 Charlotte - Fair show. I wish there was more advertising for this show. Dot, hint hint hint!
Sep 10-11 Charleston Gun Show - Mike keeps putting on a great show. We are considering other gun shows.
Sep 24-25 Florence Gun Show - This was our first at Mike's Florence show. It was to advertise the NEW shop. It was great!
Sep 24 Florence Coin Show - The Pee Dee Club just keeps getting better. What a great coin club in the Pee Dee area.
Sep 30-1 Hickory, NC - Wow! So much fun. The NCNA advertises well and host a wonderful show.
Oct 8-9 Myrtle Beach - Yawn. We set and purchased two great buying appointments out of the show. However, the show was slow. A few other dealers reported having a great show.
Oct 15-16 Savannah At the Armstrong Center again! Rocking show! We spent a lot. We have to move the show next time though. Armstrong Center is just too expensive.
Oct 28-30 Greenville, SC - Fair, Tony puts on a great show. Just not much coin buying beyond bullion.
Nov 5 Columbia - Below average for Columbia. Seemed like
Nov 12-13 Raleigh - I have yet to have a bad coin show in Raleigh. Always good coin sales and good buys. I wish it didn't snow there, I would consider moving there. Just too darn cold.
Nov 26-27 Charleston Gun Show - The attendance was lower than average. However, we considered it a good show. Set a few good appointments out of the show, and had some good sales. We purchased lots of ammo for the shops, just in case...
2010
FUN Orlando Jan - First time we set up at the BIG show! Interest was not as high as we hoped. Most dealers felt the same way. Still had a great time pigging out at Boston Lobster Feast!
Jan 16-17 Raleigh - Good show for low end coins. That seems to be the theme with the economy. It was interesting to see one dealer get in an argument with the borse chair. C'mon, you know better than to do that.
Jan 29-30 Perry, GA - We were "Deputized", hehe. They must not have heard about Randy! hehe. This show was much better than I expected. 2010 Silver Eagles and Ikes, yes I said Ikes, were popular. Can't wait to go back!
Feb 5-7 Charleston, SC - Great show! The radio station was a great boost! Unfortunately, a friend of mine got robbed when he went to eat after the show. I hope people realize most coin dealers, including us, are always armed! Interest in Buffalo Nickels was high. The Fri night BBQ was to die for.
Feb 12-14 Charlotte, NC (We had a great show! Buffalos were again in demand.)
Feb 26-28 Spartanburg, SC (Ikes were the big seller. If you haven't been to the Beacon to eat, you HAVE to go!!!)
Mar 13-14 Raleigh, NC (Ikes and modern commems were in high demand. Where did all these Ike collectors come from? Maybe it is the economy?)
Mar 19-21 Deland, FL - The first time we did this show and we loved it! All the dealers around us packed up on Saturday. Literally, no joke. So we just spread out further and had even a better show!
Mar 27-28 Winston Salem - Slow show. Made 1 good trade and sold a good many Morgan varieties! We have come to expect that in this part of NC.
Apr 10 Columbia - new show, not the normal Columbia show (This turned out to be a very good show! Lots of new faces to the Columbia area.)
Apr 17 Florence, SC - Silver eagles were in demand. As always, thanks to the Florence Coin Club for a great show. We'll see you at the swap meet in a few weeks. Update: the swap meet was great.
May 1 Columbia - normal Columbia show - This was a GREAT show! Morgans were popular! Kathy, thanks for not stealing my keys this year, hehe
May 7-8 Augusta, GA GREAT SHOW! Who knew CLAD Roosevelt dimes would be so popular?
May 21-23 Richmond, VA club show - Connie, thanks for squeezing us in! We ate at BuznNed's. You HAVE to eat here! Average condition semi-key Morgan's were in high demand.
May 28-30 Jacksonville, FL - Rob put on an AWESOME show! Eisenhowers and Bust halves were in high demand. Great dinner at Singleton's Seafood Shack.
Jun 4-5 Anderson, SC - It was a slow show, but it was the club's first show in that spot and only their 2nd show ever. Tommy, thanks for getting us in last minute!
Jun 12-13 Charlotte, NC - Very slow show. There were more dealers than clients
Jun 19-20 Raleigh Club show. - Well attended show again this year. Low grade key date coins were in demand.
Jul 9-10 Summer Fun - We just worked the floor, which was a great thing. Almost every dealer I spoke to stated he bought more than he sold.
Holy smokes have we been busy with the local economy in June and July! Three huge purchases in three weeks! Thanks to everyone so far and in the future!
Jul 24-25 Rockhill, SC - Barry, we appreciate you getting us in on short notice. - This show was sloooooow! I bought more silver that I care to think about. We ate at T Bonez on the Lake. Great ribs!
Aug 6-8 Charleston, SC - While the show seemed like a lower attendance than normal, all but one dealer stated they had a great show. I bought much more than I sold, which is never my plan. I guess the economy is still driving that.
Aug 14 Charlotte, NC - I just sold to dealers, I did not set up. Great little show in the VFW club. The kids, my mom, and I went to Carowinds afterwards. I had no problem on the Intimidator, but got sick on the Charlie Brown Balloon Ride! Go figure!
Aug 20-22 Dalton, GA BRNA - Fair show. We created our own new table spot right next to the bathroom. It worked quite well. Thanks for working with us Bob! The YN Auction was fun, but got CRAZY at the end! Some little spoiled brat kid started to make a scene by cussing at the auctioneer and the helpers. The "low rent" mother added to the problem. Bravo to the other parents in the room that told her she was no longer welcome there. Too bad skanky people have to ruin it for everyone else. Afterwords, the Detecting Chinese Counterfeit Coins lecture occurred. I would pay to attend it again, THAT'S how good it was! UPDATE-Since the class, I "passed" on purchasing about 20 counterfeit coins. Man did that class save my rear!
Sep 17-19 Richmond, VA - What a great show! We really love Richmond! George, thanks for a wonderful show and taking care of us.
Oct 1-3 Hickory, NC - Very well attended show. I was surprised to see how many collectors were walking around with lists in their hand. It was a refreshing sight from the last year of everyone at a show trying to sell their collection.
Oct 9 Florence, SC - This show was 90 miles a minute from open to about 2 PM. We love the club there. Great people with a passion for coins. Note: all future Pee Dee area coin shows will be at the convention center, not at the hotel.
Oct 16-17 SAVANNAH, GA - This show rocked! Saturday morning actually had a croud waiting to get in! And this was only the 2nd show there! We created a lot of interest in starting a Savannah coin club. If you are interested in attending a meeting, email or call me. We anticipate having the 1st meeting in January 2011.
Oct 30-1 Greenville, SC - The state show was incredible! There were collectors galore! We were very pleased with the turn out. Tony, thanks for putting on a great show! Bill and Randy were the two goofballs in the pink shirts.
Nov 6 Columbia, SC - Normally, this is a busy show. Kinda slow this time around.
Nov 13-14 Raleigh, NC - Dot always hosts a great show in Raleigh. While the sales to the public were down, there was a lot of dealer to dealer action.
Nov 24-25 Charleston, SC Gun Show - This was the first time we sent Randy off on his own. He did great! I think his black eye got him some "pity sales", hehe/
Dec 3-5 Deland, FL - Wonderful show. Nice weather in FL during a darn cold SC week!

This show was rockin' and rollin'!
Myrtle Beach, SC 5/2
Very slow, but it was the first show there in 39 years.
Augusta, GA 5/8-9
Very slow. Many other dealers thought the same thing.
Atlanta, GA (Whitman show) 5/14-16
Besides some jerk stealing the radio out of my car and me getting locked in the hotel bathroom, it was a good show.
Jacksonville, FL 5/29-31
Very slow show. Lots of boy scouts earning their merrit badges made it fun though!
Charleston Gun Show, SC 5/30
We only set up on Saturday since we had a big Navy inspection on Sunday. There were A LOT of people there. Looking forward to the September show!
Greensboro, NC 6/5-7
Average show.
Raleigh, NC 6/20-21
We had an INTERESTING show! A guy shop lifted $730 of coins from us. But he was arrested AT our table! What a jerk! And I would have given him a good deal on the coins he was putting in his pocket. I hope he doesn't drop the soap!
---UPDATE: He was prosecuted and found guilty. We finally got our inventory back.
Rock Hill, SC 7/18-19
VERY slow. Only about 70 clients total for the whole weekend. Much more advertising is needed for this show.
Rocky Mount, NC 7/25-26
This was a better coin show than we expected. Good date Morgans were very popular.

Florence, SC 10/10
Started slow and finished strong.
10-17-18
Savanna, GA coin show!
WHAT AN EXCITING SHOW IT WAS! Great public turnout! We sincerely appreciate all who attended. The dealers were BEGGING me to host another show. We are moving to Armstrong University Ballroom. We will not be back at the Trade Center.
This was the first show since 1984! We had dealers from Miami to Northern, VA. Our 51 tables were sold out and we had dealers we could not accomodate.
Myrtle Beach, SC 10/25-26
Slow show. Needs more advertising.
Greenville, SC 10/30-11/1
As always a great show. First time with our new projector. We got lots of compliments on it with the featured coins display.
Columbia, SC 11/7
Silver eagles flew off our table!
Raliegh, NC 11/15-11/16
Well, we didn't get robbed this time! hehe. We had fun here. The show was in a round room. We didn't think it would work, but it did.
