1864 is a fun year to collect! There are several varieties that are easy to find. The Copper Nickel variety represents the last year of this composition. It sometimes has a milky color, earning it the nickname of the "white cent." The mint switched to Bronze this year, having a composition of 95% copper, 5% tin/zinc.
James B. Longacre also placed his initial "L" in the ribbon on some hubs used only for the bronze composition, resulting in the "L" variety.
Mintage
Cu-NI - 13,700,000
Bronze - 39,000,000
No wear. Full mint luster. Minimal wear. Some mint luster remains. Minor wear. Some mint luster may remain. Still great design devices. The high end of a mid-grade coin. Spent several months in circulation. Mid grade coin. Nice example. May have some detracting features. Significant wear, but all devices are recognizable. Not a bad coin at all. We like to say these coins served their country well! hehe This coin has been around the block a time or two! Imagine the stories it could tell. Barely recognizable.
